SUMMER IS COMING!!!

Hello...

Again it’s been nearly a month since my last journal entry. Things are well here in Sunnyside Kensington. The days are getting longer and I’m excited to say the sun goes down around 8pm now days. It feels really weird when I finish work at 7pm and I’m walking home in broad daylight. It kinda feels like 4pm in the afternoon which spins me out!

We were lucky enough to go boarding again on Saturday up at Lake Louise. For Klint and I, it was a very last minute decision, with an early rise to catch the train into Budget to rent the car. But we made it and were up on the slopes by 10am which rocked. It was very snowy on Saturday morning in Calgary so we thought it would be very busy up on the hill with loads of snow. To our surprise, there was little snow, icy chucky conditions and next to no people. It was go though… I took off from Klint after lunch and let him fly down the mountain while I practice my technique and turns. Anyway, it was an amazing feeling being in the middle of nowhere, with no one around me… in the middle of the Canadian Rockies… JUST GLORIOUS!

The news on the work front?!?! I’m in training this Friday for the summer boot camps that start in two weeks. My club (World Health Club) have taken on a contract with Calgary Sport and Social Club to run boot camps four times a week over the summer months. Anyway, so I figure it will be great to get outdoors and meet some new clients. I've decided to try and pick myself up a second hand bike so I can ride to these training sessions which will be held other on the other side of town to where I live in McLeod Trail. Exciting stuff…

On top of that, I’ll be doing a course to take spin classes (or REVS as they call it in Canada) in two weeks. Spin classes are just a bunch of bikes in a studio room and you cycle to music.

So as you can see, there are quite a few opportunities arising for me with World Health Club this summer. Lots of different stuff, not just training, which totally excites me.

I’ve also joined the local Kensington running group. We run on Wednesday nights and Sunday mornings. Certainly a great way to stay motivated, especially when it’s still chilly in the morning and evenings (usually about zero degrees or lower).

Apart from that, all is well here. Enjoying life in Canada and am certainly looking forward to the summer ahead. There’s so much to do with the Bow River (which divides the city) only two blocks from my house. I was out running Sunday morning and it sorta reminded me of doing my runs along the Brisbane River. Maybe a little different… with the River’s edge still bedded with massive chucks of ice and snow and a gorgeous white mist that disappears as the sun rises. After quite a few months of cold weather, it’s great to see the River finally opening up and the ice melting. Anyway,…. As I was saying, loads to do with water rafting, hiking up in the rockies, fishing, mountain biking and not to forget our weekend away camping (in the rockies) with JR and Sandi – I CAN’T WAIT!

Well, I better run. One last thing… I just wanted to wish a couple friends all the best for their up coming weddings, Kate and Pete (this weekend – yay), Greg and Jess, Alison and Junaid, Rachael and Stuart, Nicole and Steve – hhhmmmm….. I think that’s it!

Lots of love… all the way from Canada!

Hayley
