So i guess most of you heard... I got transferred to the Monarch of the Seas! Wow, it's been an interesting couple of days for me.
I got word on Friday afternoon after boat drill by Issa that I had been transferred. I was cool with it, untill he told me that i had to be on a plane on my way to Orlando by Sunday moring. It gave me less than 48 hours to pack and say my goodbyes. It's been tough, i tell you that! I literally felt like i knew everyone on the ship, and had so many close friends around me. My team... gah! I'm sad. I know most of them are signing off in March and April, but still. It's been hard in the fact that i've had to start all over again.
It being my first contract, i feel very nieve in the sense that i knew it was coming, and SHOULD have prepared myself for it (better than i had done). As they say, that's ship life. I know now that this can happen at any time, any place when you least expect it. Needless to say, i've learnt from the experience and I'm slowly getting use to the fact that the Monarch will probably be my home now until the end of my contract. My projected sign off date is still July 6th. But as I said, Royal Caribbean are freakin unpredictable.
I think i would have been a little bit more excited if i had of been transferred to a bigger ship with a better run. Unfortunately the Monarch is literrally the same ship layout and same run as the Majesty but instead of it docking in Miami, we dock out of Port Canaveral.. oh and we have a sea day instead of docking in Key West - yuck! So unfortunately for me... i'm probably on the oldest and boring ship of the fleet but... i gotta deal with it!
As for the people... It's never going to be the same as the Majesty. I've have an awesome room mate who makes me feel so welcome. She had music playing when i arrived and decorations up to make me feel at home. And the coridor i'm in is great... Full of lovely people who usually congigate inthe corridor and hang out! I like that. Unfortunately it's not much of a party coridor though, noboyd really goes to the bar, but perhaps that's not such a bad thing. I may get a bit more sleep at night and not be so hung over for work every day :)
There are two other sports staff. My supervisor, Dexter and another staff, Radcliffe. Dexs is from Trinidad too and Radcliffe is from Jamaca. I found out from Radcliffe who has been around for 10 years and who is currently the director of sports that you don't come by FEMALE sports staff very often. hahaha - I dont' mind. Radcliffe is really cool... and he's already told me, i'm in training to become a supervisor if i want the responsibilty. He says i have potential and he's looking forward towroking with me over the next few months. The guys are really cool, but they are a little older (in their 40's). They've been around for years so they generally don't party by night, they just do their job and go to bed. That's cool! I guess the good thing is, these guys are the people you want to know as THEY know lots of people! :)
I'm slowly making friends here. I have no doubt, like on the Majesty, time will go quickly and i'll have made a bunch of new friends and family! I think it's just that initial shock, but i'm learning new things about this experience every day and taking it in my stride.
HAPPY AUSTRALIA DAY to everybody back home! I miss you guys heaps. Sorry if you sent mail to the Majesty! I told the crew office there and they're having it transferred here to the Monarch.
Enjoy the warmth and sunshine back home, and stay warm for those of you in Canada.
Love and hugs
Ree
