WOW – where to begin… Well, if I told you I was home two weeks early cause I fractured my collar bone riding a scooter in the Bahamas… would you believe me??
The month of June was bringing a ton of fun, good friends and good company! Courtenay and I (my room mate) were, parting, sunbaking and enjoying my last few weeks on board! Things were heating up in the Bahamas. It was hot as hell, and we were in high kid counts which meant the sports deck was fun and happening.
CoCo (Courtenay), and two friends, Yev and Alex decided to rent scooters in the Bahamas to see a bit more of the island before I signed off, one of the things left on my ‘to do list’ before I signed off! Anyway, I’ll cut to the chase. It just wasn’t my day really. From the get go, I had a feeling the scooters were dodgy. Two or three of the bikes had broken down in the first hour of us leaving the rental company at the pier. Anyway, we were travelling along bay street when the front panel of mine started to flap. Next thing I new it was under the front wheel of my scooter and I was splattered on the road. I landed on my right shoulder and now have a bunch of grazes all up my leg. It took the docs on the ship three times to get the xrays right and to finally realise (after 5 days of pain) that I’d fractured my collar bone. As soon as they realised I was on a plane within 48 hours on my way back home to Australia.
Anyway, so after 40 hours travelling time and a bunch of pain killer, I’m home safe and sound on the mend. As you can imagine I’m disappointed that my contract ended. I was two weeks out from signing off! I’m so so thankful to have such wonderful friends on the ship… CoCo – omg you are amazing and Susan, Brett, Darren you guys rock. Thanks so much for taking care of me. I couldn’t have done it without you. Especially you Courtenay… I would have been one smelly girl if it weren’t for you.
So, I’m home now! The doctor reckons I’ll be in this brace or straight jacket as I call it, for another 3 weeks or so. I’m due to go to New Zealand on the 12th for a snowboarding holiday with the girls. I’m still going of course, but it’s a touchy subject right now if I’ll be carving up the snow on my board - boo!
It feels so quiet and peaceful to be home. I’m still getting use to all this sleep, especially the full nights sleep that I never got on board. Owww… not to mention the awesome home cooked meals and TLC from Mum and Dad… my taste buds are going crazy.
I’m still umming and arrriing about my next contract. Ships and living at sea is one of those ‘love-hate’ things. I miss being on board, especially the friends and family. Especially my roomy Courtenay – god love her! But life at sea is not real life… it’s a nice change and escape from reality – an escape of partying and constant work, but fun work!
I’ll keep you posted as to my movements! 12 September, being the date i'm due to sign onto the Liberty, will be here before I know it – eeekkkk! But the next adventure is New Zealand… hooray!
Love love love
